A biomedical animated explainer video is a teaching tool that uses animation, voice-over, and text, to break down a wide variety of complex topics in science and medicine. Employing three of the four learning styles – visual, auditory, and read/write – explainer videos are a powerful method of educating a diverse audience with varying learning styles. These videos are excellent tools for use on social media and websites, since viewership can be large and individual learning styles unknown.
These movies present a complex topic in a clear manner in a short period of time. They often introduce the topic and address a few key questions, providing a visual message that people are attracted to watch – instead of wading through written descriptions or long video explanations. They can be embedded on websites, used in an e-learning interface, or included in social media posts.
Whiteboard animations
One key form of explainer video is the whiteboard animation video. These animations are composed of images that are drawn in accelerated speed or time-lapse, often with an animated marker creating figures, words, tables, and other didactic tools to attract attention and communicate critical messaging. Along with a voice-over, they succinctly highlight information to allow a viewer to understand a given topic.
Artery Studios has been creating animated explainer videos for over 20 years. We continue to apply their utility for use in the MedTech, BioTech, medical device and pharmaceutical areas, and have demonstrated ‘invisible’ concepts, such as air flow related to the functioning of a medical device and microscopic processes that the naked eye cannot see, and created backgrounder videos for biomedical scientific products.
